Walmart Names Head of Digital Brands

Bonobos chief executive officer Andy Dunn will oversee Walmart's growing stable of e-commerce brands when the mass merchant completes its $310 million acquisition of the apparel brand.The deal is expected to close later this year, after which Dunn will step into the role of senior vice president of digital brands for Walmart U.S., reporting to ceo of Walmart U.S. e-commerce (and longtime mentor) Marc Lore. Bonobos will join women's online retailer ModCloth, outdoor gear seller Moosejaw and online shoe shop ShoeBuy (which also recently scooped up the web address of defunct online footwear retailer shoes.com) in Walmart's collection of digital-native, standalone retail brands that appeal to various demographics. In a letter posted to digital publishing platform Medium, Dunn wrote: "[Lore] and I have a mind meld on how brands and platforms will develop in this rapidly changing environment. [Lore] is the best in the world at building upstart third-party brand e-commerce properties. He and I will now leverage our combined know-how and, with the biggest company in the world behind us, take on creating the leading vertical e-commerce platform."Bonobos and the other brands will be offered on Walmart's Jet.com and possibly other Walmart brands in a variety of countries over time, the company said in a media release."We're seeing momentum in the business as we expand our value proposition with customers and it's incredible to see how fast we're moving," Lore said in the release. "Adding innovators like [Dunn] will continue to help us shape the future of Walmart, and the future of retail. I'm thrilled to welcome [Dunn] and the entire Bonobos team. They've created an amazing product and customer experience, and that will not change. In fact, [Dunn] will be a great influence on the company, especially in leading our collection of exclusive brands offered online."
