PetSmart Sells Exclusive Disney Products for Halloween

PetSmart this fall offered an exclusive "The Nightmare Before Christmas" line to help celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary as part of the retailer’s ongoing partnership with The Walt Disney Co. An endcap display stocked the line, which included: Jack Skellington and Zero cat costumes for $14.99. A Jack Skellington cat scratcher for $12.99. A three-entrance cat tunnel depicting Jack and Zero for $24.99. Cat toy sets for $5.99-$12.99. The display offered members of PetSmart’s Treats loyalty program quadruple points on all "The Nightmare Before Christmas" products through Oct. 31. A QR code linked to a page where they could activate the offer. Price signs promised Treats members a free item from the line with the purchase of three other SKUs. "During the Halloween season and beyond, Disney’s 'Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas' invokes as much fandom today as it did 30 years ago at the box office," Kristin Shane, PetSmart senior vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a statement. "Empowering pet parents to share their fandoms with their pets is one of the many ways we help bring people closer to their pets. PetSmart’s exclusive 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' collection will have cats, dogs and fish loving this iconic film just as much as their humans do." The retailer’s salons offered a Halloween special dog grooming package that included a coupon book, pumpkin spice spritz and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" bandana. PetSmart plugged the line with a PetSmart.com home page product carousel as well as posts across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. In other seasonal activity, PetSmart used “Scary Tails” pallet, aisle and slatwall displays to merchandise private label toys, decor and costumes. Candy-themed items produced through a licensing deal with The Hershey Co. received a dedicated endcap display offering “toys they can sink their fangs into.” A line of Halloween-themed Peanuts toys and costumes from Bark also received a dedicated endcap. A home page display ad on PetSmart.com plugged the collection.
