Travelocity Social Contest
Expedia Inc.’s Travelocity travel site ran a clever social contest via the dating app Tinder, as well as over Instagram for non-Tinder users. Those on the dating app, however, might have come across a profile for the Travelocity Roaming Gnome character in their inbox, and the ad asked users to “swipe right” on the gnome and enter a contest for a trip for two to one of three luxury resorts. (The winner was announced in February, and he’s off to the Caribbean.) To enter, the user simply shared why they’d be the best travel date for the gnome. On Instagram, following profiles for the Roaming Gnomie or Travelocity gave users a chance to submit a picture or video explaining why they’d be a fun travel partner to the gnome and use the #BeMyGnomieContest hashtag.
