Mars Gets Charitable at Dollar General
Mars Wrigley Confectionery is running a pair of cause campaigns at Dollar General this spring.
Mars has pledged to donate $1 to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (up to $20,000) for every bag of orange vanilla cream M&M's purchased from May 1-30. A May 7 Facebook update touting the pledge links to a promotional page within dollargeneral.com that hosts a $1 digital coupon valid from May 6-19.
Appearing in stores on April 25, the exclusive, limited-edition SKUs are stocked on floorstands offering the eight-ounce bags for $3.25 each or $6 for two through May 31. An ad in an April 25 email promotes the deal.
Mars has also pledged to donate $1 (up to $20,000) to Blue Star Families for every bag of Skittles "America Mix" or "Red, White & Blue" M&M's purchased at Dollar General from May 7 to June 3. A home page carousel ad on dollargeneral.com promotes the effort and links to a web page hosting recipes incorporating the brands.
The manufacturer is promising a $1 donation (up to $8,000) to the nonprofit for every consumer that uses the hashtag #DGHometownSalute to share how they are welcoming military families in their community via a concurrent social media campaign. Updates on Blue Star Families' Twitter and Facebook pages support.
