Director, Member Development - The Path to Purchase Institute

Position Overview

The Path to Purchase Institute seeks a Director, Member Development, responsible for building and strengthening our Retailer and Brand membership community, including recruiting new members and driving membership engagement through, among other things, improved site usage, membership upgrades, and event participation. This position is measured against membership goals, member engagement, sponsorship of events, and sales of custom research and content.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Recruit new and upgrade existing members to the Path to Purchase Institute
  • Develop new business opportunities and close new account business from retailer and consumer goods/brand members
  • Sales and event attendee recruitment for Path to Purchase Institute events, including Path to Purchase Expo, P2PSummit, League of Leaders, Forum of Merchandising Executives, Retail Academy, industry councils, StratConns, Retail Academy sponsorships, and more.
  • Sales and project management of tailored Leadership University courses, as well as Enterprise Solution projects within the shopper marketing community
  • Sales of custom content and sponsorship opportunities within Shopper Marketing magazine and associated products, including Guides, white papers, ebooks, sponsored content, supplements, etc.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Recommend candidates for Shopper Marketing’s Who’s Who publications and events
  • Assist with analysis and “productization" of additional member services, including training/education, promotion heatmapping (VAS), share groups, retail tours, consulting and other services of value to Institute members
  • Assist with facilitating and training of both public and tailored Leadership University courses and Council meetings

Key Required Activities

  • Effectively advise and influence members through consultative selling techniques
  • Research the member environment and organization to be able to identify key opportunity areas for maximum business impact
  • Articulate member benefits and solutions in terms of value/ROI to the member
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and ability to excel in fast paced environment
  • Strength in working well cross functionally; utilize other Path to Purchase Institute team members including membership coordinators, editorial staff, media sales, event and executive management to achieve business objectives
  • Rely on excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain executive-level interaction and customer satisfaction
  • Provide client and prospect feedback to improve and develop new services to support our Institute members
  • Capitalize on industry knowledge and contacts to uncover business opportunities
  • Required travel 6+ nights per month (minimum of 20 to 25 client appointments)

Skills and Attributes

A successful candidate should be driven, creative, a self-starter and strategic thinker. The candidate must possess the ability to lead and work in a team environment. In addition, this position requires the ability build strong partnerships and serve as trusted resource to Path to Purchase Institute Members.

Qualifications

  • Seven to 10 years’ experience in selling marketing solutions specifically in the advertising and/or shopper marketing space
  • Some technical knowledge of business intelligence/analytics is preferred
  • High percentage success record for making sales goals
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing a large account relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team sales environment
  • Demonstrated success developing new account opportunities
  • Retail and consumer goods industry knowledge required
  • Experience selling to Fortune 500 accounts in the consumer goods vertical
