Holo App

By Dan Ochwat - 11/16/2017

Los Angeles-based hologram company 8i released an app called Holo that leverages Apple’s latest ARKit to enable users to place holograms of real-life 3-D people into the user’s current location. For example, someone on the beach may want to send a video or photo to a friend. With Holo, he can overlay a hologram of soccer star Jerome Boateng. The company claims to be the first to allow users to place holograms of real life humans and animals into the user’s world using what they call volumetric video technology. The app also offers videos of artist Jhene Aiko and actor Harry Shum Jr. The company is hooking up with brand-inspired holograms in entertainment such as for the film “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but one can easily see a KFC’s colonel, Dos Equis’ “The Most Interesting Man” or other brand-inspired personalities come into play.
